How to Delete Your Account

UV Balance gives you full control over your data. Account deletion is immediate, permanent, and requires no support ticket.

Option 1 — Delete directly in the app or website (fastest)

You can delete your account from your Profile settings without contacting support. Deletion happens immediately in a single database transaction.

  1. Open the UV Balance app or visit https://uvbalance.com/login.php and sign in to your account.
  2. Tap the Profile icon (top-right), or navigate directly to https://uvbalance.com/profile.php.
  3. Scroll to the Privacy & Your Data card at the bottom of the page and tap "Delete my account permanently".
  4. In the confirmation dialog, type DELETE in the text field and enter your current password.
  5. Tap "Yes, delete everything". You will be signed out immediately and redirected to a confirmation page. All data is erased at this moment.

What gets deleted

  • Account row — your username, email address, and bcrypt-hashed password are permanently removed from the database.
  • Sun-session logs — every exposure session you saved, including GPS coordinates, UV Index readings, Fitzpatrick skin-type, body-surface area, vitamin D estimates, and notes.
  • Email subscriptions — any marketing-email consent record or newsletter sign-up linked to your email address.
  • Login-attempt records — rate-limiting records associated with your email or username.

What is retained after deletion (and why)

  • Deletion audit record — a SHA-256 hash of your email address (not the address itself) is kept indefinitely for legal compliance. This hash is mathematically irreversible; your email cannot be recovered from it.
  • Server access logs — standard web-server logs held by our hosting provider (typically 30–90 days) may contain your IP address. These are outside our direct control and cannot be individually deleted on request.
  • Email delivery logs — retained for up to 90 days for anti-abuse purposes; recipient addresses are stored only as a truncated hash, not in plaintext.
  • Anonymous session data — any UV calculations made before you created an account are stored without any link to your identity and cannot be located or deleted.

How long does deletion take?

In-app deletion is immediate — it runs in a single database transaction the moment you confirm. There is no waiting period, cooling-off period, or manual review step. Email requests (Option 2 below) are actioned within 5 business days.

Option 2 — Request deletion by email

If you no longer have access to your account — for example, you have lost your password and no longer control the registered email address — you can contact us directly:

Please include: the email address registered to your account so we can locate the correct record.

We will action the request within 5 business days and reply to confirm completion. Under GDPR Article 17 the legal maximum is 30 days.

Download your data before you delete

Before deleting, you can download a JSON copy of everything we hold about you. From your Profile → Privacy & Your Data, click "↓ Download my data (JSON)". The file includes your account details, all saved sun-session logs, and your email preferences. This download is available at no cost under GDPR Article 15.
